SR 87 Technology Corridor Study

Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), in partnership with the City of San Jose, has initiated a study of State Route (SR) 87. Nine miles in length and serving as a connector between US-101 and SR 85, SR 87 is an important multi-modal corridor that experiences some of the worst congestion in Santa Clara County.

This study seeks to address existing concerns for SR 87 in advance of anticipated growth and land-use in the area. VTA will identify technology-based improvements and innovative solutions that will maximize use of existing infrastructure, focus on less capital-intensive operational applications, and rely on real time information to find “hidden” capacities along SR 87.

Community Input

As part of this study, VTA solicited feedback from community members who travel along the SR 87 corridor by conducting a survey. The survey asked participants for their SR 87 travel habits and common destinations. Participants were also asked to weigh in on potential transportation improvements. The survey ran from March 15 - April 15, 2018.
