Make Your Voice Heard – Join a VTA Advisory Committee.
11/18/2021

Are you passionate about transportation? Do you want to advance progress in Santa Clara County's mobility management? Now is your chance to be a part of the decisions that govern how we provide transportation solutions, by joining a VTA advisory committee. These committees advise the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority’s Board of Directors on transportation policy issues and initiatives, including infrastructure projects and transit services.

There are currently openings on the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC), which also serves as the independent Citizens Watchdog Committee (CWC) for the 2000 Measure A Transit Sales Tax, and the Committee for Transportation Mobility and Accessibility (CTMA).

“Serving on the CAC/CWC for the past few years has been a rewarding experience,” said Jon Cacciotti, CAC/CWC Committee Member. “VTA staff hears our comments and discussion, and that helps define proposals before the Board of Directors takes action.”

The Committee also serves as the independent Citizens Watchdog Committee (CWC) for the 2000 Measure A Transit Sales Tax, overseeing the expenditure of hundreds of millions of dollars. Members represent community and societal interests and business and labor; serve a 4-year term and are limited to two consecutive terms. Meetings are monthly.

“Serving on the CTMA has given me the best chance to make the greatest changes and to ensure that all VTA buses and paratransit services are fully accessible and user friendly for all!  Transit is for everyone, that is why I serve on the CTMA Committee,” said Christine Fitzgerald, Community Advocate Silicon Valley Independent Living Center.

CTMA Members include seniors/persons with disabilities, representatives of community service organizations within the county, a representative from VTA's paratransit provider and the Board of Directors.

CTMA Meetings:

The Committee generally meets every other month on the second Thursday of the month. For now, meetings are conducted virtually.

Requirements for VTA'S Advisory Committees:

VTA’s advisory committee members must be 18 years of age or older and must reside in Santa Clara County. A background in transportation and/or relevant experience is preferred but not necessary.

With your help, our board can make informed decisions to strengthen the economy, combat climate change, and ensure the well-being of our community, all while providing the essential services thousands of Santa Clara Valley residents and workers depend on.
